Talk to publicip about giving back the changes

Description

Someone should talk to publicip about giving back the changes they have made to wifidog. Their auth server is based on wifidog, and not contributing the code back is a violation of the license. A lot of the open tickets and future "wants" on the list are already addressed. Only thing is that there will need to be a UI created around the auth server since that does not fall into the auth servers license.

I think this would greatly help in development. There are many features that have been completed in PublicIP that are on the roadmap for wifidog. QoS/Bandwidth Throttling, different user types with limits for each type a ticket system etc... Basically, by not rereleasing the server code, not their UI, PublicIP is not adhearing to the license. The UI can be easily reverse engineered after the source code for the server is gotten.

GPLv2 does not require to give back changes. It requires distribution of source with distribution of software. I don't know anything about PublicIP, but unless they are distributing software, they are not required to distribute the source nor "contribute back". See COPYING for details.

They ARE distributing software.

Some sources for the wifidog client seems to be here

I think they are only distributing the client, they run the server.

MoreOver? they say "THE CURRENT GATEWAY SRC IS ON THE ZONECD IN /etc/wifidog/gwsrc" , maybe someone has their premium CD to check ?

They do run the server. However, Scott is open to opening the server portion back to the project, he has mentioned releasing it in the past. The front end, which he does not need to contribute will be his and not released. He is distributing the server, I think there are certain places, Libraries etc that have copies of the server code.

@ the last anon comment, we are not talking about the gw we are talking about the server and the gw.

@ last comment, the gateway cd is easy to get just go download it. The main problem is the UI on the server side. Though I am sure it can be recreated.
