Avoiding latency spikes caused by concurrent users due to buffer contention in the DSL or cable modem. This could be solved by existing solutions like WonderShaper?, but there needs to be a better way to set the available bandwidth. Ideally it should be measured by a script, as DSL lines can vary very significantly from the advertised bandwidth.
