User profiles (Allowing every user to opt in to have a profile page, allowing them to change their username, etc.). The profile will be linked to the username displayed in the menu.

I think we all know what I'm talking about. 
  
 Opt-in feature. Choose in personal settings whether 
 want to be viewable by default. Add a button at login 
 that lets user overide the default setting. ex: 
  
 username: 
 password: 
 make me: 
 * visible 
 * invisible 
  
 keep profile simple, with more information available 
 about other users only if person has filled it out.  
 For the person's own profile, only show additional 
 fields if user clicks "extended profile". 
  
 in simple profile: 
 -username 
 -name 
 -email 
 -url 
 -itunes name (with question make for pop-up explaination) 
  
 in extended: 
 -the kitchen sink

regarding this "make me visible/invisible" thing - there should be a third 
option: "make me visible when i'm online (at a hotspot)" ...

btw: when do you plan to implement this feature?

Note that after intense debates, it seems clear that it's not possible to agree to a core set of fields, as several groups would include links to specific propprietary services as core fields. As such the generalised architecture allowing every group to define the fields for their profile will have to go in first.

I'm pushing this to 1.1, we'll just be happy if it makes it to 1.0
