Allow filtering of available content types in various situations

Description

The content admin UI could be made much easier for many users ...

One problem we often see is people selecting content types that make no sense in specific situations ...

For example doesn't make it any sense to use an IFrame content type on a login page as the browser won't be able to call the specified homepage.

On the other side does a content type like Flickr make no sense to be selected as a title.

So we should be adding an UI to let a server or network admin (should be decided) define, which content types are available:

  • on the login page
  • on the portal page
  • on attributes like the title of every content type

Change History

  • milestone changed from WifiDog Auth Server 1.0 to WifiDog Auth Server 1.1

We pretty much have it now for titles and other metadata. Some content group types make use of it as well.

For login stuff, it's a little more problematic. While we could (and should) define a "Requires external" flag, it would cause problems. The file and subtypes (Picture, SimplePicture?) can depend, or not on an external resource. RSS usually depends on external resources, but what if a group wanted to put it's own news on their login page?

The second more technical problem is that the selection of the destination page happens after the list is generated. So this is unsolvable without ajax.

Bumping to 1.1 (at best)

  • status changed from new to closed
  • resolution set to fixed

We finally have this for the most part with the content type filter system. Different tasks should be opened for specific issues.
